An Intimate Film Elopement at Glen Constantia: Olivia & Ian

Some weddings don't need a crowd. They need two people, the ones who raised them, and a view that stops you mid-sentence. That was Olivia and Ian's elopement at Glen Constantia, and it's one of my favourite days to look back on.
Just them, and the people who matter most
Olivia and Ian knew from the start that they didn't want a big production. They didn't want seating charts, a long guest list or a rush from one thing to the next. They wanted to say their vows on the lawn at Glen Constantia with their parents beside them, and then simply be together for a while.
The ceremony was simple and full of feeling. With so few people there, every word mattered. Their parents shed quiet tears and held hands a little tighter, and after the vows everyone just stood and took it all in. With the Constantia valley stretching out around them, it felt like the whole world had gone still for a few minutes.

Why film was perfect for this day
I shot Olivia and Ian's elopement entirely on 35mm film with Kodak Portra 400, and I can't imagine it any other way. Film slows me down. I make every frame on purpose, so I'm not firing off hundreds of shots and hoping one works. I'm watching and waiting, and I press the shutter when the moment is real.
Portra 400 was made for a day like this. It gives warm, natural skin tones, soft greens across the lawn and gentle highlights in the open Constantia light. The fine grain makes the images feel timeless and honest. These photos don't look like they belong to a particular year. They look like memories.
Glen Constantia: a hidden gem for small weddings
If you're dreaming of an intimate wedding or elopement in Cape Town, Glen Constantia is worth knowing about. The lawn is the star, and its sweeping views need nothing added. There's room to breathe, it never feels like you're one wedding in a busy schedule, and there's plenty of beautiful light for portraits afterwards.

Thinking about eloping?
Eloping doesn't mean leaving anyone out. It means choosing what matters. For Olivia and Ian, that was their parents, a beautiful spot and time to soak it all in. If that sounds like you, I'd love to hear your story. Small days photographed on film are exactly what I love to capture.

Olivia and Ian, thank you for letting me be part of something so personal. 🤍
